CITL provides support for innovative and data-informed pedagogical efforts at the University of Maine.
Together with our partner centers and departments, we work to create and sustain a culture of innovation in teaching. To this end, we offer numerous learning communities, workshops, and host guest speakers. In addition, we provide one-on-one consulting on a range of topics relating to:
- curricular and instructional design;
- diversity, equity, inclusion, and access;
- instructional and information technologies; and
- the role of generative AI in teaching and learning
UMaineOnline currently has three production suite spaces dedicated to the production of online course content. These production suites are located in the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL) in Fernald Hall. Please contact our instructional designers with any questions.
Two of the spaces provide studio-grade 3-point lighting options with multiple backdrops for use with Chromakey and other advanced functions. Both rooms have extensive sound treatments and one features a small sound booth. Both of these spaces are supported by full-time professionals who can configure the spaces to optimize faculty productions for today’s high-definition production standards. At UMaine, we want to assure our faculty have the facilities to produce top-quality content for today’s online students.
The final suite enables the delivery and capture of small-group webinar-style presentations, screen capture, and interviews. A Pan/tilt/zoom HD-USB camera is combined with a Mac mini and wireless microphone to allow for maximum software compatibility. Up to 6 people can be featured on camera at a time, with a room capacity of 10. The camera can be set to a preset location to provide additional coverage options.
The UMS RemoteLab system provides students and faculty with the ability to access academic software typically restricted to physical computer labs from home. This service establishes a remote connection to a Windows PC workstation located in a physical computer lab on one of our campuses. This service supports remote connections from either a home Windows PC or Mac. The software that is currently available through this service is the same as that offered by the respective labs.
