Online Production Suites

At approximately 9:24 a.m. on Friday, April 19, a University of Maine graduate student was struck by a university vehicle on Long Road at the University of Maine campus in Orono. The student reports that they are at a local hospital with minor injuries.

Emergency services, including the Orono Fire Department, University Volunteer Ambulance Corps, University of Maine Police Department, Orono Police Department and Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.

The university vehicle involved in the incident was a Chevrolet Express van. It was being operated by a university employee.

Counseling services and support are available for students, faculty or staff who may have been affected. The Counseling Center can be reached at 207-581-1392 and the Dean of Students Office can be reached at 207-581-1406.

The scene has been cleared and Long Road is now accessible. An investigation is being conducted by the University of Maine Police Department with assistance from the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit. UMaineOnline currently has three production suite spaces dedicated to the production of online course content. These production suites are located in the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL) in Fernald Hall. Please contact our instructional designers with any questions.

Two of the spaces provide studio-grade 3-point lighting options with multiple backdrops for use with Chromakey and other advanced functions. Both rooms have extensive sound treatments and one features a small sound booth. Both of these spaces are supported by full-time professionals who can configure the spaces to optimize faculty productions for today’s high-definition production standards. At UMaine, we want to assure our faculty have the facilities to produce top-quality content for today’s online students.

The final suite allows for the delivery and capture of small group webinar-style presentations, screen capture, and interview. A Pan/tilt/zoom HD-USB camera is combined with a Mac mini and wireless microphone, to allow for maximum software compatibility. Up to 6 people can be featured on camera at a time with a room capacity of 10. The camera can be set to a preset location to provide additional coverage options.
