About the Program

The online Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies is an accredited, affordable degree program that can be completed on a flexible schedule. A comprehensive liberal arts core curriculum provides students with a solid academic foundation in English composition, math, science, humanities and the arts. 

Students also may choose optional 15-credit online concentrations:

• Psychology or Mental Health and Rehabilitation: In addition to providing foundational skills desired by employers in these fields, students who complete one of these optional concentrations will be prepared to pursue higher-level education in UMaine Machias’ online Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Community Studies.
• Creative Writing: Students take multiple workshops in the genre of their choice: fiction, creative nonfiction or poetry as well as a course in the graphic novel.
• Digital Media Production: Students take courses in digital video production, digital audio production and podcasting, Adobe Creative Cloud and business.
