Curriculum

Our curriculum teaches you how to use scientifically validated protocols and procedures to conduct systems evaluation and data-based decision-making across three tiers of intervention.

The following courses are required (9 credits):

  • SED 581: PBIS Tier 1: Universal Prevention and Intervention (3 credits) 
  • SED 582: Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Tier 2: Targeted Interventions (3 credits) 
  • SED 583: PBIS Tier 3: Individualized Assessment and Intervention (3 credits)

Admissions

Application Deadline: August 1 (Fall Semester Start Only)

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university
  • Currently working or volunteering with students with disabilities in an educational setting

The admission evaluation process begins once we’ve received all of your application materials. Before you apply, please review the application instructions. When you’re ready to apply, please submit the following:

  • An online application
  • Current résumé or CV
  • Official academic transcripts from all institutions attended
  • A 300-500 word essay based on the following prompt

Careers

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), there are projected to be about 35,900 openings for special education teachers annually from 2022 to 2032. The median annual wage for special education teachers was $65,910 in May 2023, higher than the median yearly wage for all occupations of $48,060.
