Curriculum

The Ed.S. in Curriculum, Assessment, and Instruction is individually designed to address your interests and help you meet your goals. Throughout the program, you’ll work closely with a faculty advisor to develop a program of study that works for you.

Students who have already completed the action research capstone sequence will complete an internship.

Students who did not complete an action plan while earning their master’s degree will take two action research courses (6 credits): 

  • EHD 586: Seminar: Action Research in PreK-12 Schools (3 credits)
  • EHD 587: Practicum: Action Research in PreK-12 Schools (3 credits)
  • NOTE: This program does not lead to a recommendation for initial teacher certification and does not provide the courses required for certification.

Admissions

We have rolling admissions, so you can apply and be accepted into the program anytime. However, the following priority deadlines are recommended:

  • Fall semester: May 1
  • Spring semester: October 1
  • Summer semester: March 1

Applications will still be reviewed after these dates, but acceptance may be deferred for the next semester.

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
    Applicants with less than a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale are encouraged to submit PRAXIS scores, three letters of recommendation, and their application.
  • A graduate degree from an accredited college/university 
  • Experience teaching PreK–12 and/or state certification

We have rolling admissions, meaning you can apply and be accepted anytime. The admission evaluation process begins once we’ve received all of your application materials. Before you apply, please review the application instructions. When you’re ready to apply, please submit the following:

  • An online application
  • Current résumé or CV highlighting intellectual qualities such as curiosity, creativity, persistence, and analytical skills in their prior studies and/or professional work
  • Official academic transcripts from all institutions attended
  • A 300-500 word essay based on the following prompt
  • Copy of current teaching certification/licensure (if applicable)
  • PRAXIS scores and three letters of recommendation are encouraged, but not required, for applicants with less than an undergraduate 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale

Careers

The demand for instructional coordinators is growing. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the overall employment of instructional coordinators is projected to grow 2% from 2022 to 2032, about as fast as the average for all occupations. On average, about 19,200 openings for instructional coordinators are projected each year over the decade. As of 2023, the median pay is $74,620 annually.

Our graduates have become teacher leaders, curriculum coordinators, and literacy, science and special education specialists.
