About the Program

The online Interprofessional Graduate Certificate in Gerontology expands the knowledge, skills, and abilities of health and human service professionals who care for older adults. Graduates will be able to:

  • Demonstrate understanding of the social, behavioral, cultural, and health-related issues experienced by the growing population of older adults and their caregivers
  • Promote the health, functionality, and quality of life of older adults through education
  • Incorporate ethical principles in the provision of services for older adults and their caregivers
  • Places the aging experience in the context of addressing challenges surrounding discrimination and bias as well as the importance of advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion for older adults
  • Advocate for improved health and human services for older adults and their caregivers, rooted in the knowledge of aging-related health policy and effective programs

Curriculum

The following courses are required (9 credits):

  • GRN 500: Opportunities and Challenges of Aging (3 credits) Fall
  • GRN 501: Life Transitions and Health in Aging (3 credits) Spring
  • GRN 502: Interprofessional Care of Older Adults in Diverse Settings (3 credits) Summer

Admissions

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university with a minimum GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale
    Applicants with substantial related experience who do not have a bachelor’s degree can request special admission. For more information, contact an advisor.

We have rolling admissions, meaning you can apply and be accepted anytime. The admission evaluation process begins once we’ve received all of your application materials. Before you apply, please review the application instructions. When you’re ready to apply, please submit the following:
