About the Program

A collaborative program between the University of Maine, the University of Maine at Farmington, and the University of Southern Maine.

The online Graduate Certificate in Classroom Technology Integrationist provides the knowledge and skills to integrate technology into teaching and learning. You’ll learn to seamlessly incorporate technology in the classroom to create an engaging and dynamic environment.

Program Learning Outcomes

Students will learn how to:

  • Advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments
  • Design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessments using contemporary tools
  • Model for colleagues the identification, exploration, evaluation, curation, and adoption of new digital resources and tools for learning.
  • Shape, advance, and accelerate a shared vision for empowered learning with technology by engaging with education stakeholders.
  • Incorporate global societal issues and responsibilities in the digital age.

All work is based on the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) standards and profiles.

Curriculum

Choose one of the following courses (3 credits):

  • EDT 532: Connected and Creative Learning Environments (3 credits)
  • EDT 537: Introduction to Flipped, Blended, and Online Learning (3 credits) 
  • EDT 560: Assessment in the 21st Century Classroom (3 credits) 
  • EDT 562: Technology for Young Learners (3 credits) 
  • EDT 563: Embedding Design Thinking in the Learning Process (3 credits) 
  • EDT 571: Methods of Integrating Computational Thinking for Diverse Learners (3 credits) 
  • EDT 572: Teaching Programming in Multiple Paradigms (3 credits) 
  • EDT 598: Special Topics (3 credits)

Admissions

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university

We have rolling admissions, meaning you can apply and be accepted anytime. The admission evaluation process begins once we’ve received all of your application materials. Before you apply, please review the application instructions. When you’re ready to apply, please submit the following:

  • An online application
  • Current résumé or CV
  • Official academic transcripts from all institutions attended
  • A 300-500 word essay based on the following prompt

Careers

Technology’s role in communication and learning is growing. As it expands, so does the need for professionals who can skillfully integrate technology into K-12 and higher education classrooms, museums, training for businesses and government organizations, and more. 

As of Fall 2024, it’s estimated that 90% of our students are employed in jobs using the skills developed by earning this certificate after graduation.

This program allows students to apply earned course credit toward the Maine Department of Education 680 (Computer Teacher) endorsement.
